I hate getting my hair cut because of the way it feels. I get this crazy sensation. Its difficult to describe. Its almost like all of a sudden my nerves become super active and my head starts pulsating. Its so uncomfortable I can't sit still. My whole body starts to shake. I've had a sensitive head all my life buts its really bad when I get my hair cut. Actually my whole body is sensetive just not to the same degree. Is this something I'm making up in my head? Is this actually a physical reaction or just something mental? I really would just like to live a normal life and get haircuts like every body else.

Just yesterday, someone wrote that she loved having someone play with her hair as she found it relaxing and very pleasant. And now you're saying your head is so sensitive that you can't stand getting a haircut. I think you may have answered your own question by remarking that you have super active nerves. Or perhaps something happened in your childhood that has a bad association with haircuts, and so this can be a combination of physical and psychological issues. I really don't know what to suggest, other than to find a good hairdresser, one with whom you've established a lot of trust and friendship, and just use him or her alone. You can explain your problem, and he or she will probably understand and try to make the whole experience less traumatic for you. Sometimes it helps to get it out in the open, and then you will feel less nervous. Believe me, you are not alone in your nervous reactions to things. I know someone who has many phobias, among which, a fear of cucumbers and lemons! So find a hairdresser that you feel comfortable with, and I think that will help a lot. Otherwise, my dear, you'll just have to have everyone envious of your long, long hair, and there's nothing wrong with that, either. Good luck!

You're not weird. I'm like that too.

The part of the cut that needs the most care and detail is the part where I start shaking. I think its because I HATE sitting perfectly still.

So I'm kind of in a fight with myself to sit still and to move at the same time.

Its been like that for as long as I can remember (I'm 14) so hopefully I'll grow out of it.

Wow! My little brother is the same way. But I am convinced everything is pretty much in our heads. It's all mental. Maybe you have driven yourself to that extreme though. Try to relax when you get a haircut. Also tell the person who is cutting your hair to be gentle. Tell them how you feel.

I HATE haircuts!! They give me the willies! I think in my case it was the feeling of hair around my collar and rubbing on my neck. I just hated that!

I hate it so much that I decided two years ago to stop getting haircuts! Now I have long hair and am much happier. That and I don't have to spend those exorbitantly high haircut costs!

So, I don't even think it matters why haircuts bother you so much... I believe it is just a question of how you plan to deal with it.

This is a mental reaction (or overreaction) to a physical stimuli. Have you tried bringing in earbuds with you? Relax close your eyes, breathe deeply and focus on your breaths. Everything is merely "in our heads". I believe that you can overcome your feelings with some conscious effort.

sounds like you're just scared --- no idea why? before the haircut you're getting really uptight. find a way to relax, have a haircut at home, maybe you'll be less nervous

It may be somethnig in your head but there has to be a degree of feeling. Maybe try a head massage before you go in and dull the senses (or maybe some s*x before that may do it)

sounds like a form of claustrophobia. there are haircutters who come to the homes of senior citizens and sick folks. try getting one of them...being in your own home may make a difference.
