I just adopted a 3 year old male dwarf rabbit a couple of days ago, and his urine appears to contain blood. I can't afford to take him to the vet just yet, so I need some ideas on what could be causing it.

I am working on vet money. Unfortunately, I can't just pull it out of my ***. I need something I can work with now.

If their truly is blood in the urine, this would mean a bladder or urinary tract infection. Nothing you can do for that at home.
However, be aware that this may not be blood - what does it look like exactly? If it's red streaks, this may well be blood. If the urine is just generally tinged red, this may just be colouration - it's normal for rabbits to have red urine.

Could be a bladder infection.
What I would do is call the vet and explain that you just adopted a bunny and are very concerned about his health. But that you are really short on funds. Ask if you can work out a payment schedule.
Most vets are happy to arrange something with you since they don't want animals to be needlessly in pain. Just make sure you tell them this BEFORE you take the animal in (Note: This may not work at your local Banfield. They're corporate so it makes it harder for the vet to bend the rules)
Hope this helps.

Rabbits can have dark urine, almost appearing blood like. It's caused mostly by change in diet and stress.
If there really IS blood in the urine however, it indicates infection or disease and the rabbit need to be seen by a vet right away.

Good for you that you adopted a bunny! You just saved a life! =) Well, I would try and get the money as fast as i could. It seems like your bunny needs to see the vet, quickly. Or, call the place you adopted the bunny from and ask if they could take a look at him. Who knows, you may not have to pay them, since you adopted him when he was sick. You might be able to work things out. Well good luck.

Are you sure its blood? Rabbits have a very dark orange/brown urine. I think you should contact the previous owner and ask them to at least help finacially with taking him to the vet.
But DO take him if you think its blood.

There can be several causes such as urinary tract infection, but all require treatment by a vet. It is a serious symptom. Find a way to pay for a vet.
