Since when is it not okay for urine to be yellow? I went to the doctor's and he informed me that it should be clear. Did I not get the email?

I know if it's orange you have too much salt in your system and if it is green you have too much sugar in your system, but I always thought it was supposed to be yellow.

Why am I always out of the loop?

Yellow may mean that it's very concentrated, meaning you're dehydrated - or not hydrated enough. Try an experiment by truely hydrating yourself... drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fruits and veggies.
But, really... you should ask you doctor to explain things you leave his office not understanding! Call his office, ask the nurse or leave a message for him. When you go to visits have some questions written down. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor questions... you are paying him for his expertise!!!

Normal urine collor is pale yellow to clear. Unless you've had a lot of fluids prior to going to bed, your first trip to the bathroom will give you darker urine because it's concentrated. There are medications that will change the color from bright orange to red. It's ok if you have clear urine occasionally but this shouldn't be a goal to shoot for since drinking too much can cause 'water intoxication' and disrupt the delicate balance of electrolytes in your system. You may have heard about a radio station that held a water drinking contest and had some fatal results. Ideally, you should be making 3 to 4 trips to the bathroom a day to avoid the inconvenience of a UTI. Frequent trips to empty your bladder also rids you of bacteria that can cause a UTI. Having too much salt or sugar in your system doesn't affect the color. Too much sugar will make your urine smell sweet, this is NOT something you want! Urine should also be fairly clear though occasionally it will look a little cloudy and will still be normal. Dark, cloudy, foul smelling urine spells UTI and you need to get to your physician ASAP to prevent the infection from going to your kidneys. Hope this helped.

Well, it is ideal for urine to be clear, but I think that rarely happens. The yellower or darker is it, the more dehyrated you are. Vitamins can make urine extremely yellow and smelly. I didn't realize it could be green, unless your on meds. We need to be drinking 2 qt of water a day, but I know I don't even come close to that. Especially in hot weather, you need to keep up the liquids. You aren't out of the loop, you just didn't know.

If you take a vitamin, your urine will be bright yellow!!!

Generally, the more water you drink (and we are supposed to be drinking a whole lot each day), the more colorless your urine will be, with the extra added benefit of flushing out your entire urinary system frequently so there is a lot less chance of urinary tract infection.

Yellow just means you are not as hydrated as the doctor thinks you should be. If you drink lots of water and are well hydrated, then your urine is less concentrated, making it clear.

If its yellow it means your not drinking enough water as you should. Your urine should be mostly waterbased because you are supposed to have 8 glasses a day. Just be sure to drink alot of water and it should turn clear in no time.
