Ok, so I've been taking the depo birth control shot for almost 5 years now, which would mean I started taking it in 2002, I went today for my normal shot that occurs every 3 months and the nurse asked me "How long have you been taking depo", and I said almost 5 years, then she said "Have you been taking calcium", and I said no, so then she went and got a head nurse and they told me that I am should have been taking calcium pills because depo causes bone loss, and that in 2004 there was a black box warning saying that no one should take depo for more than 2 years. I had been on depo for 2 years when this notice came out. However today 2007 is the first time I had ever heard that it causes bone loss, that your supposed to take calcium, and that your not supposed to take it for more than 2 years. I always have weird feelings in my legs and stuff and I don't know if the depo shot is why. Shouldn't the clinic have informed me of these risks and told me that I couldn't take it any longer?

If I get a bone scan and it says I've had significant bone loss, what kind of legal action or if any should i take against this clinic, who didn't inform me of any BLACK BOX WARNING, when it came out?

I've never taken the shot but they were supposed to have given you a crap-load of stuff to read and that should have had some details in there about possible side effects.

Though they should have told you about the time limit on taking it/

And if you sue for medical reasons - you usually have to have had some type of actual damage. It's worth looking into but I don't think you should be as excited as the female below me lol

Good Luck

If you google depo provera lawsuit, you can find more information on it. I took it for four years, and as soon as I heard about a bone density check from my doctor, I immediately did more research and was horrified to see all the negative affects I was having was happening to everyone else, as well as hearing about osteoporosis(sp?) and class action lawsuits. There is also a MSN Groups made up for depo provera users.

Okay....this actually happened to me. The lawyer told me I had to have the bone scan. I came back okay from the scan and could not bring against any case. So if your scan comes back with bone loss then yes, you can sue. If not then no you can't do anything.

They should have. They were wrong.

There are law firms that specialize in Depo cases. I'm sure they can tell immediately if you have a case and advise you on what steps you need to take.
