have a Camry whose check engine light has been coming on for several months. after thousands of work replacing parts, it kept coming back on.

recently replaced the battery because the car wouldn't start and the battery tested 50% or so. since the replacement the light has not come on again.

so could the battery have caused the check engine?

Yes, a bad or intermitten battery can actually drain power from other systems and cause the light to trigger or the car to die.

Use an ODB II reader to find out for sure what's causing the light to come on. That's the only way to know for sure if you're addressing the right problem.

it's possible. when you have a "check engine" light you need to check the codes to find out what it means. the car will give you a number and you look up what that number means. buy a cheap code reader or drive to autozone and ask them to do it for you they do it for free

Take the car to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts. They can put their tester on it for free to diagnose your problem.

If so, I heard that if you unhook the battery for an hour or two it will reset the computer.
