think of a strainer ... and compare that to your clothing. You clothes are made up of fine thread ... a strainer is fine strands of metal.

pour powder detergent over your shirt ... how fast does it pass through the material????? NOT

Now try this with with liquid detergent ... see there is a difference.

The liquid detergent will pentrate the clothing faster and not have to wait to dissolve.

Which brand you use is entirely up to you.

I use powder , Have used liquid, but I think you end up using more liquid detergent , than powder. With the powder you can only put so much in the drawer, but with the liquid if you don´t always use the measuring cup, Your tempted to add that little bit extra

All answers so far are correct, (except one), and I agree with them. A couple of items to add.....Powdered detergent is harder on your washing machine, it can clog up the pump over time. Also, if you have a septic tank (instead of sewers) liquid is much better for it. Many powdered detergents use phosphates in their ingredients. Some environmentalists think this can be harmful.

I use liquid because it is usually on sale (buy one, get one) and far easier to use and measure. Powder goes everywhere, doesn't dissolve well in colder water and doesn't have a handle. I can recycle the containers for both, but have used liquid since it was available. I haven't noticed any cleaning quality differences.

I prefer liquid detergent rather than powder only because it tends to dissolve better.

I switched to liquid Tide years ago. It's just easier for me to use & not so messy. I can also use the liquid Tide as a spot pre treater easier than using a powder.

I like liquid cause it doesn't clump up, if u accidentally put too many clothes in! Also when using cold water it seems to do the same thing. Although your suppose to put the detergent in first and let it dissolve, but it still seems to clump up on me.........

liquid because it seem to mix better with the clothes and water and the powder sometimes sometimes clump up in the washer when not used correctly.

Myself personally I prefer Liquid.
I have used powder in the past and if all the powder hasn't desolved when it is in your wash,it tends to sit and paste to the clothes.
