If you like the name and you think it fits your baby, that's what matters. Petra reminds me of the model on that computer commercial, Petra Nemcova.

Anyway, congrats on the baby and good luck with the naming.

If you like the name Petra, go for it. At least it's not on the top ten list, like every Emily and Matthew..... Also, for all those people commenting on the fact that you had so much time to think about this... I'm just glad you didn't have her name picked out before she was even born. That's more irritating than anything to me. Well, maybe the only thing worse is not having any name at all, and coming up with something like Stephany or Ann. Took you all that time for that? Petra is a great name!

Naming a child is a very individual thing. What are you calling her right now? Why not use that for her name? It also depends on the last name. Think about if the initials spell anything out or if it will it be a name children are likely to change into something bad when they are teasing your child. (sorry but reality is kids will tease at some time or another.)

Think of all the good people you know- one that make you feel good thinking about them & adapt a name form theirs.

Petra is unique. are you pronouncing it Pet- ra or Pat-ra (such as short for Cleopatra or Petricia?)

I have alway liked Emmy, Ameilia, Emily, & Emma. However my hubby doesn't like them.

Petra sounds a lot like Petrol - not exactly an elegant name.

Possibilities:
Evelyn, Etoile (star in French pronounced etWAL not Eatoil), Nessa, Piper, Alena, Tous, Lola, Chloe, Melinda, or Nadia?

Hope you find the right name!

My girls are named Cecilia Ann, Grace Elizabeth, and Kathleen Constance. I like Petra also, but we like traditional (saints) names. Good luck!

I think Petra is cute.
Or Amora (like the word for love)
Girls are so fun! Congrats.
Or Summer since that is the season she was born.
