I think it can be both.

"The cancerous growth metastasized" is a verb
"The metastasized growth was troubling" is an adjective.

Both. A matastasized tumor is a tumor that's moved, true, but that's still describing that the tumor has moved.

Adjective version = verb version

Metastasized tumor = a tumor that has mestastasized

Drowned dog = the dog that has drowned
