I prefer to cremate my larger animals just as you do, but I bury their ashes in my yard with a small marker with their name to indicate where they are. It is too difficult and unwiedly to bury very large animals (we have very hard soils) and I always fear that another animal or a future homeowner may dig them up.

I prefer burial - my garden has 5 mice, two hamsters and about 10 fish buried in it, as well as my beloved cat who has a wonderfully decorated grave.
I think cremation with ashes back is very nice, but it's just not for me - I want to be buried rather than cremated.
I work at a vets (I'm a nurse) and certainly the majority of people have their animals cremated, but of those that do the majority don't have the ashes returned - this is mostly money issues though.

Well, we have had alot of birds die in our house (most of them were the sick wild ones that we found or someone gave to us after they found it). Since they were small, we just buried them in our back yard. We have also had a few hermit crabs and 2 lizards that we also buried. (no I'm not a pet killer, they just died from old age and sickness.) Our 16 year old Shih Tzu died and we got him cremated, so now, we have his ashes. We adopted a new doggy though, and she is the princess of this house. lol.
Also got 2 old hermit crabs (4+ years old) and a 19 year old cockatiel! wohooo!

My dad buried my two guinea pigs that died from old age in the back yard.
My dog that died of cancer was buried in a pet cemetary.
But it wasn't up to me. If it was, i would have chosen cremation because every time I go to the pet cemetary I see all of these pets whose tombstones are overgrown with weeds and it makes me sad b/c it makes me think that their owners don't care about them anymore.

when i used to live with my parents, i would bury the dogs, rabbits, and rats in the backyard. we would buy a new plant (tree or rosebush) to mark the area. now, i rent a house and it upsets me a little because i dont want to bury an animal there that someone may unknowingly dig up. i think i will start burying them out in the desert. i live in las vegas, should be pretty easy.

When we owned property we buried our animals.
Including two birds, countless goldfish, 1 cat, three dogs, and a pony (it broke a leg about two hundred yards down a steep hill. We had the vet put him to sleep where he was and used a backhoe to dig a hole)

I had all my pets buried at the pet cemetery in Colmen, Calif. when I lived there. I have death Certificates on all of them. And in my pet album they are kept in memory of -----.

I'd prefer to bury them in the yard, but local laws prohibit it.
