I've never taken birth control before but would like to start. Do I have to go to the ob/gyn or can I go to my family doctor?

It would probably be in your best interest to see an ob/gyn to begin birth control. They'll ask a series of questions, and may do a pelvic exam and pap smear before prescribing them for you (usually only if you've already been sexually active.) Hope this helps. :-)

You have to go to the ob/gyn because they have to make sure that everything is okay before they put you on the pill. It kinda sucks but we all have to go through it some time.

Where I live family doctors can do all of that stuff as well...heck, they'll even deliver your baby if they have time. You should be able to go to your family doc, who will do an exam, or send you to have one done, and then write a prescription for whatever birth control you and him/her decide on.

you should go to an ob/gyn so they can do all your girly exams. they'll want to if you go on birth control anyway.

They both can prescribe drugs to you, but the OBGYN is specialized and will have more information and experience to give you the correct meds and dosage.
