HM that's a tough decision! I would probably go for a BBQ out on the back porch with family and friends. Cook up some chicken and steak. Yummy. Now I'm hungry, lol.

BBQ - the problem with driving out somewhere (way out in the country) to have a picnic is you never feel like driving back. At least that is the case with me - I enjoy the ride out, but if I'm driving far, I like to stay where ever for a few days and not be in a hurry to get back.

First consider the person or people that you are hosting. With both options you would be outside. So make sure the weather is nice and you don't have to worry about gnats, bugs, mosquitos, bees, and things of that source. If it is a medium to large crowd I would go with the BBQ. But if you want something vey small and intimate pick choose the picnic. But also keep in mind preparation cost and time. There are two things that will also help in your decision making.

I love taking 'picnics' ... we don't have a car, but we do take the bus or walk to some really GREAT parks in our city ... and although I love the 'traditional' fried chicken and potato salad type picnic, sometimes we go 'gourmet' (our last picnic was chicken fingers in '7th Wonder' rub, with 'plum and chili sauce' to dip them, plus a 'sort of potato salad' and some 'gourmet soda' and fresh nectarines ... we ate it literally ON the water (we were on a 'floating walkway' in a 'swamp park') and it was a WONDERFUL picnic on a wonderful day. We have a 'third floor' apartment, and no 'barbecue' but my husband does a good 'oven barbecue' (no thick sauce) but if we don't want to go on a picnic, we pop in a DVD and have 'dinner and a movie' at home ... also WONDERFUL.

how about you bbq at a picnic, lots of parks and recreational places have grills for the public to use or if you have a truck(dont know how far in the country you are) you could take your own.

Picnic on a quiet day beside a rambling stream under shade trees. Your loved ones with you enjoying the simplicity of chicken-potato salad-sweet tea,or coke classic(non drinker),fresh fruit. If you can't afford to go anywhere have one in your own back yard. Pack up the blanket and just go out under your shade trees. Love it!!!!
