I have an open dirt space in my backyard that is just covered with weeds now. I'd like to just use weed killer on them, but I'm afraid it will hurt my dog. Is there a certain kind I can use? Or how long do I have to keep my dog out of that area?

Most of the weed killers sold now are pet friendly as long as the animal doesn't go lick or eat it before it's dry. It usually takes at least 4 hours to dry up (depending on your climate). I prefer Round-Up, because I've tried many others with very poor results as far as killing the weeds goes. As long as you don't go "el-cheapola" about the product you use, it will be safe for your dog as soon as it's dry. Best to apply it in mid-day when the sun is shining bright, because it'll dry faster.

I have and love my dogs, but I use straight white vinegar to kill weeds in areas that are difficult to keep those pesky eskies out of. It kills the weeds and gives me peace of mind. Plus, a gallon of vinegar costs 99 cents...I've heard that salt works, too, but have never tried it.

I have the same concerns: I bring them indoors in the early evening, spray and don't let them into the sprayed area until a.m. I only use Roundup.
