The whole thing about katrina was an embarassment to our nation those people went from living inpoverty because they were lazy to the goverment footing the bill for everything you know how many of those people i saw blowing that money on jewelery and crap when they were supposed to be getting on their feet. its all a bunch of horse s#!t if you ask me they should have to pay that back liars. I am not saying all of those people were wrong but there are so many of them that lied and cheated to get a hand out that was ment to be for people who really needed it.

Yes, people are going to sit around holding hands when 125 mph winds are blowing their houses apart and flooding evacuation routes. Maybe they can all go the Super dome and wait for the ceiling to collapse on their heads.
Maybe you should be the head of the evacuation next time a hurricane hits. Make sure that women, children, the elderly, the sick and the homeless all have a ticket out of town.
I doubt you have the intelligence to coordinate such a task.
Did you know 50 percent of statistical surveys have flaws?
One third of southern coastal residents? What does that even mean?

Okay if it's insurance companies your talking about then, who cares. If it's government money you should tie in the responsibility of having insurance as far as relocation, what about flash flood areas or tornado inclined areas. I guess it's just a risk living with mother nature. The article you give talks about coastal area's, as far as the poor go you could turn the hurricane shelters into a temporary homeless shelter in the off season's. By the by what do you associate with Katrina, a flood or a storm. How large was the flood area?

The government have been defrauding people forever but beside the point--if the residents of the southern coastal wont evacuate if a hurricane hits their risking their lives and it wont really matter. u crazy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It took forever for their relief to come to their aid. People died waiting and waiting for the government to help. Yes there are going to be some people going to try some slick stuff, but we know the Big G always wins in the end.

I think you have it wrong, the reason they will not leave is because their property was not protected and they could not take any personal possessions and NO animals .I think if the same happened to me I would not leave either,I might not have nothing left but it was still my rubble.I live in a tornado area and I have experience,Also where did they go?? To this convention center to wait for 5 days and nights with no food or water,Get real. They learned a valuable lesson,no matter how much you pay in taxes you are expendable,in a natural disaster. Now for those who did defraud the agency's they should be ashamed to even call themselves AMERICANS.And by the way some are still waiting for that handout they were promised and NEVER got, then to be screwed by the insurance companys too.Yes a natural disaster on all fronts!!

Have you seen Oprah's documentary on the people living in the region after it hit? Years after it occured people were living in tent citys in what looked like a 3rd world country. The water was contaminated they still had to pay payments on their homes that were demolished, fema trailers which should have been in use for poeple were sitting on a lot empty and guarded by the military. And what assitance they did get was not enough to properly support their familys.
I think they say they will stay there dispite another huricane hitting because its their home, its where their family has lived and died and some people are deeply rooted to where they came from. I don't think its because they believe they can get rich off the government. I think its loyalty.

No, it showed those people who legitimately lost everything that this President doesn't care about Americans nor does he have the intelligence to set up a disaster relief system...There are people who have been defrauding the government for years, it didn't start with Katrina...Instead of using 400 billion dollars to fortify the levee system in New Orleans, he chose to continue a useless war that kills our men and women every day...Those people stay there because it's there home and they have a history there...You may not understand that because you are more than likely a kid trying to make a statement...What would you have the people of the Gulf Coast do...Evacuate all of their properties and go where?...

Katrina showed us what type of government we have- and how the Government for the people --by the people--- is a false statement today.

There's nothing new under the sun. If there's a way to lie, cheat, or steal then humans have tried it at some point in time.
