This is kinda embarrasing but..Umm im kinda confused. im 16 and ive been trying to put a tampon in, but its just not working. The directions say to push it upwards, when really the hole goes downwards, and it kinda hurts when i try to push it in too. Am i doing something wrong? i know it sounds kinda stupid.. i know its the right hole...please help =( Thanks.

Step 1: The first thing to do is wash your hands. To open the wrapper, snap off the top.

Step 2: The tampon is contained inside the plastic applicator, which is made of two tubes, one fitting inside the other.

Step 3: You need to extend the applicator to its full size prior to the insertion of the tampon. Simply pill the inner tube till you feel it come to a stop at the bottom of the outer tube. The tampon is now ready to be inserted.

Step 4: Get yourself into one of the following positions, whichever feels the best for you: sit on the toilet with your knees wide apart or stand with your knees bent and your legs apart, or stand with one leg on the toilet. RELAX by taking a few deep breaths.

Step 5: Find the grooved rings at the bottom of the outer tube. Use your thumb and middle finger to hold the applicator firmly on these rings. The removal cord should be hanging down from the inner tube and facing away from your body. Use your other hand to fold back the skin that covers the opening of your vagina. Place the rounded tip of the tampon to your vaginal opening. Point the tip towards your lower back.

Step 6: Remember your vagina slopes towards the bottom of your back, not straight up. Take a few breaths and the gently push the applicator in the vagina. As soon as your fingers touch your body, the applicator is in the right place. If the applicator doesn't slide in easily, gently rotate it or move it o the right or left as you push.

Step 7: Keep hold of the outer applicator tube. With your index finger, push the smaller tube all the way into the bigger tube (make sure you can't push farther). One tube is now inside the other.

Step 8: Carefully remove the two tubes. The tampon should now be comfortably inside you, with the removal cord hanging outside your body.

Step 9: To dispose of the plastic applicator, use the wrapper as a disposable bag. Do not flush it as it is made of plastic. Now wash your hands again.

When you are ready to remove the tampon, relax and pull the removal cord downwards at the same angle as you used to insert the tampon.

It just takes practise! Once you've done it properly a few times then it will be fine.

It's not a stupid question, you're new at this. Some women find Playtex tampons (They have plastic applicators.) much easier to start w/ than Tampax and other brands w/ paper applicators. Platex is certainly NOT better for the Earth, but I can definitely understand young women needing to use them at first. Normally, when standing, most women's vaginas do indeed go up, but there are some variations out there in the natural world. Please don't be grossed out by this, but have you inserted your finger into your vagina to a) get familiar with your own anatomy, and b) to see exactly how you are shaped? Additionally, you don't say if you are still a virgin, or not, but sometimes women who have not yet had sexual intercourse have hymens or hymenal tags that can get in the way of insertion. Have you either gotten out a mirror to see what's in the way, if anything, or gone to your gynecologist for some assistance and some information? I think this would be very helpful for you...and educational as well. Also, for some women even the regular or slim regulars are too long b/c you're just not done growing yet. Try OB, they're short and fat with a minimal amt. of packaging and they work great. You can also buy sea sponges at the local pharmacy. I've used them for years, and they NEVER hurt. You just squeeze and rinse them out and can either reinsert them, or have a spare that's ready to go while you wash the other one out and dry it in the sun. Some women sew strings to the sponges to make them easier to take out. Much cheaper over the long haul, and much, much, much better for the environment (with the exception of not being better for the sea sponges...). When they finally get too ratty to use anymore, you just compost them and buy some new ones. An awesome solution in my experience. Many women have no idea of the chemicals added to tampons and pads to make you bleed more and to "deodorize" you and to bleach the cotton (when cotton is used) white in the first place. These chemicals are seriously bad for you. The bleach used is related to dioxin. Hope this all helps! Many blessings on you!

Find the cervix and get in a postion to where you can insert the tampon under the cervix. I'm 25 and have had 2 kids and still sometimes have to do this. Also try using a tampon thats short no just for light absorbancy. I use playtex instead of Tampax because they are shorter andmore comfortable.

okay i think that i can help let me tell you how i do it.
i put my right leg on the toilet while i am standing up. Then put the plastic or cadboard part all the way up untill your finger is touching your skin you have to relax your body down there and dont think about it. Make sure that you are relaxed!! then push slowly untill your finger touches the applicator.i hope this helped. good luck.

STAY RELAXED!

listen dont use them. They are the leading cause for so many health issues including toxic shock down there caue it doesnt allow your period to flow and leave your body.

They are uncomfortable, and well i really sugest you not use them. But if you insist try puting one leg up on something and all vaginas are shaped differently you should slowly push inwards till the applicator and tube connect, then pull out applicator leaving the string out and it should feel snug. Try ones with plastic applicators at first for easier entry.

you are supposed to push it upward but also tward the wall behind you. just up to the first break off of the tube, then push the second half in the first half then take the plastic or cardboardout.

maybe you should try asking mom if this dosnt work.

No i know what your talking about. This is gross but take some toilet paper and take away the skin so you can look at the hole. Just for where thwe blood is coming from. Then shoot for it. you can even take it out, see if theres blood on it...if there is you have the right hole. It was hard for me but No i can say I'm pretty much a pro. Good luck. Oh and it helps to RELAX

Push it slightly upwards towards your lower back. Don't push it straight up.
