It was during the Battle of Britain, but did start earlier, and it was mainly children. Thousands went to the countryside, but many more were sent over to Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

You aren't sure what decade World War 2 was?

The "Blitz" by German aircraft was in 1941, where Germany tried to gain air control over Britain so they could invade. They failed because the Brits had radar, and the Germans were slightly behind in its development. That allowed the Brits to send their planes right to the German planes, instead of having to patrol the air to look for them- they did not have enough planes to do that.
The Brits did not totally evacuate London, just the children and some civilians.

No year. London was bombed from the air in both the First and Second World War, but there was no formal evacuation. Some parents sent their children away to live in the west of England, Wales or Scotland for the couple of years the bombing was at its worst in WWII, but that was their decision.
