I was taught in school that if you're hot, you should cool your wrist down because then it will cool your entire body down. So if that's true, wouldn't wearing a wristband make you hot?

Well wrist and head bands are used to keep the sweat off your face and hands. They are mostly for basketball players. Sweat can roll down your arm to your hand and cause your hands to be slippery and loose the ball. So to avoid the sweat reaching your hands the wrist band absorbs the sweat. Same thing with head bands, when sweat poors down your head to your face the head band absorbs the sweat and keeps it off your face. Most of the time they are used by posers for fashion....

Wrist bands have nothing 2 do with hot & cold stuff.
Wrists bands r worn 2 give extra support 2 the muscles & ligaments at wrists in games which put extra strain on wrists like tennis, squash, badminton, volleyball etc.

ummm yeah i dont really get wristbands either. i think people just wore them to be "cool". But i understand the headbands that are made out of the wristband material. they keep you dry and cool u off.

your wrist controls part of your bodies self-monitering temperature, so that part is true.

athletes wear wrist bands because it keeps the sweat off their hands. hard to play tennis when the racket slips out of your hands, basketball, etc.

the basic use of a wristband is for whipping the sweat off your face, so you don't have to resort to using your shirt or uniform.

Presumably to keep sweat away from their hands so they can maintain a good grip.

Some get paid to wear them. Look close, you may see Nike on some of them.
