we live in a rural area where several homes are a part of a central well system.

I should have added that the outdoor watering isn't hooked up to the house, the pipe comes from the same water main, but doesn't hook up to the house itself, there are two sepeate pipes.

You need to replace the "ball cock" or Fill Valve a Fluidmaster 400a will work great. It takes 15min or less to install with a pair of channel lock pliers . The anti-siphon washer is bad. Replacement will save you in the long run $$$ in water bills. Home-Depot will have what you need....

Two reasons.

1. You create a vaccum on the system with the venturi effect when water passes through those other narrow drains.

2. The little rubber flapper thingy in the tank is starting to be disolved by the algae in your tank. Go buy a new one. They are under ten bucks and you will probably save more than that in next months water bill.

A change in water pressuer is probably making the float (or pressure) valve in your tank slip and open up. Adjust the valve to shut off a little sooner.

You probably have air in your water pipes.

I think it has something with water pressure.
