I learned to knit when I was 12 years old at the private girls school I attended. This was after WWII and the school adopted a French Orphanage to help support. The students would knit sweaters for the children and the Home Ec class would make little dresses. Times have certainly changed but I still love to knit and picked it up again several years ago and am a member of local knit group. We are going to have Fiber Fanatics Show in the Fall.
Join a knitting group locally, there probably is one if you aren't involved in one now.

I know how to Crewel but the craft stores never sell the kits anymore. It's like embroidery but with yarn (and floss). My mother-in-law taught me. The stitches are varied and take on the texture of what they represent. It's quite beautiful.
My 21 year old daughter did a little a few years ago but didn't have the patience.

I can sew (machine), and I used to do knitting when I was in the US Navy... It's a GREAT way to stay awake during the 8 hour late night flights and watches.
My wife just took up cross-stitching and is enjoying it.

Hi! I like sewing. I've done a few tapestries and cross stitches in my time, and I also like to do patchwork or just make stuff, (bags, pencil cases). I tend to make things up as I go along! I can knit too, but I don't really enjoy it that much, I prefer sewing.
