You will allways come out on top with a roller cam. They have been around a long time and work the best for performance and clean power. The roller cam will last at least ten times as long as other cams.Best of luck.

The roller wins in all catagorys with 2 small exceptions, but they can be quite expensive if you just want a RV cam like performance.
1. they cost around triple a flat tappet does.
2. if you want wicked high rpm they cost even more.
But do they do win if you want a 350 SBC with 300 horse, or a 454BBC with 450 horse becouse they cost so little you can afford roller rockers too.
Also in the 2 motors above flat tappets can give a 1-2 mpg increase becouse of the significantly lower weight. Extra Hp cost extra fuel and rollers have more cam then a comperable flat tappet, but are worth 25-50 depending on the motor and cam specs.
I still build motors with flat tappets becouse sometimes I just need a grocery getter and the added cost + horsepower don't add up for what I'm looking for. Also Compcams sells many very advanced flat tappets for less then 200 dollars including lifters. About 100 dollars less then just the roller cam.

roller wins in every category plus the sharp ramps of the roller give much much better performance..
due to a rule book change in super-mod class racing
3 years ago i dominated by running a roller cam while others thought we had to run flat tappet cams..

Hyd. roller will make more power, and be easier to break in. RPM will be limited though due to the heavy weight of the roller lifters. Price is also a major thing. If it's a roller cam retro fit to a gen I SBC engine.. The cam, lifters, cam button, thrust bearing, stronger timing chain cover, etc to swap over to a roller cam will run in the $700-$1000 range
Solid roller would make more top end HP and RPM better but not as streetable, wears quicker.. Priced about same as hyd. roller. You also have to lash the valves more offten. On norm street use, with some track time you will probbly have to lash the valves 4 times a year
Hyd. flat tappet will be cheapest, ($500-$800 cheaper than a roller setup) last just as long as the roller. It's harder to break in right. You have to be carefull during break in. RPM better than the hyd. roller, and same grind hyd FT vs. hyd roller will make about 35 HP less
Mech (or solid) flat tappet.. RPM's better than the hyd. roller or hyd. FT, price is cheap. Will make very close to the same power as a hyd. roller. Break in is like a hyd. FT though. You also have to lash the valves more offten. On norm street use, with some track time you will probbly have to lash the valves 4 times a year

there's a lot of variables to take into account...the flat tappet will work great and save you loads of money (roller setups are sweet tho..)

initially, get rid of the 305, you ought to have positioned the 327 in the 305's place. the 327 became into and is a nasty *** vette eng.( plus the 327 block by myself is worth extra then the malibu) yet to respond to your question, hydrolic lifts is what you like
