I think they should mandate it because these jocks are role models.

Jocks weren't role models to me. Many come from the poorest parts of our country where crime and violence may be common. Take the kid out of the neighborhood, but can't take the behaviors learned in the neighborhood out of the man.

They should have outstanding moral character, but so should many other public figures.

What in the name of God makes you believe that any organization can mandate moral character in anyone? It seems to me that moral character is a product of upbringing, parenting, religious instruction, and, oh yes, the individual thought process of each of us.
Keep in mind, you hit it on the head, so to speak. These athletes are "jocks" thus, they should never be role models. I always thought persons of great courage, character, and accomplishment make the best role models. A Michael Jordan only comes along every now and then. The rest are, well, just "jocks."

Yes, they are role models and when they pollute the sports arena enough, maybe women will refuse to let their husbands and children partake in their games. Their salaries will come down. Their stadiums will deteriate. It is outstanding moral character or the poor house.

Tell these jocks to get a book and read about Rome's Arenas. As the morals of Rome came down so did everything else around them.

How do you mandate "moral character"? There is no morality scale, and good luck on getting anyone to agree on the criteria.

These ball clubs are businesses, they want to turn profits. They'll act all disgusted when athletes commit crimes but what they're really bothered about is how it's going to affect their bottom line...

Yes, they should be role models and a lot are and live up to it. Then there are the others .......................................

The ones that father all these kids you spoke about should get fixed. Shame on all those "fans" that sleep around with these guys just to say they "did it with so-and-so". They have no respect for themselves. As long as it's being offered to them free, a lot of these guys will continue to collect. They have no respect for themselves or others.

It deffinetly relies upon on the participant. sturdiness isn't all psychological, its additionally approximately combating by injuries and having a prevailing mentality. as an occasion AI returned interior the day replace into problematical as nails. There are NBA gamers extra durable than NFL gamers and vice versa. although, i might think of your ordinary NFL participant may be extra durable than your ordinary NBA participant. Artest is an absolute beast, and in a combat he might combat without judgment of right and incorrect. he's geared up like Lebron; the two of their primes, Artest might ruin Sir Charles. i might think of Dwight Howard is the suitable participant who's extra intimidating on protection than on offense. although, Kobe, Lebron, Wade, and Artest are all proficient on the two ends of the courtroom. i ought to truly see the Cavs sweeping ATL, they performed with a hearth and starvation whilst they dismantled Detroit.

everyone can be a role model for someone. People should just take responsibility for themselves and keep the level of respect they want and give it to others.

Many kids look up to these guys so I would have to say yes. Not saying that all people don't make some mistakes in their life but it's the big mistakes that come back to bite you in the a**.

I think our sports heroes should strive to be decent human beings. Some guys in the NBA have fathered dozens of kids they don't even see. I realize they are only human but the way some of them live their lives (and on our dime) is borderline criminal.
