you realize griffey is 37, almost 38 right??
do you know how hard it is to stay healthy at that age?? he had trouble staying healthy at 30!!
i dont think he even come close to Bonds. Griffey will only hit about 630 HR tops. as much as i love the guy and think he has the smoothest and sweetest swing in the last 30 years, i think hes past his prime. id love to see him get to 700 and join that elite group but i just dont think its practical

That's a big IF considering Junior's injury history. But I personally would love to see it. He'll be 38 in November. So he'd have to play at a high level into his 40's which few sluggers have been able to do without chemical assistance. However if he can finish with say 45 this year (approx on pace) he'd have 608. He'd really need another 40+ performance the next 2 years to give him a legit shot. Then he'd only have to hit around 70 more at ages 41-43 or 20-25 per year in his 40s. So it would look like this
2007 season hits 45 finishes at 608 37 years old
2008 season hits 40 finishes at 648 38 years old
2009 season hits 40 finishes at 688 39 years old
2010 season hits 25 finishes at 713 40 years old
2011 season hits 25 finishes at 738 41 years old
2012 season hits 25 finishes at 763 42 years old
2013 season could break record but would have to play at 43 years old

Griffey is 38 years old now and only has a few years left. Injuries and health issues have take their toll on Griffey. Because of this he will fall short of 700 homeruns and will never be a challenge to the record.

It's very possible. And I hope he does, so we can stop hearing about steroids. But your forgetting something, what if Bonds decides to stay and play a little longer, say in the American League as DH in an attempt to put the total a little more out of reach. We're still not sure how many more Bonds will hit.

Griffey's getting older, though if he can stay healthy he would make a run at it. He can DH in the AL so he will most likely make the transision over after his contract runs out. I would love to see it happen, but to be honest I don't see it being broken until A-Rod, Howard, or Pujols gets up there in HRs.

Like always with Griffey, it comes down to injuries. I think that if he has years like this for 7 straight years, he will pass Bonds. But soon, Bonds record is going to be broken multiple times by young stars like A-rod, Mourneau, and maybe even Howard!

He won't make it. Too old, too many injuries. He may not even stick around long enough for the Reds to get good again. A-Rod might break the record -- which will remain 755 until someone gets there without steroids -- and then Pujols and Ryan Howard might make runs at it.

Its a tough call, its possible, but not probable. With Junior's injury history, you dont know. I would love to see Griffey pass Bonds though.

nope he is too old! Arod will get it and pujols will make a run at him but howard started to late he is already 27 or 28 which isnt old but chasing a record like that it is. arod and pujols both started young. arod is about to pass 500 at 31.

No. There is no way he can make it that long and he has already slowed down as it is he cant fasten up his pace AND play 6-7 more years.
