No offense to anyone who likes it, that is your preference. But the media treats this dorky little movie like its an epic or something. Let me know if Star Wars or Lord of the Rings is bringing back another movie.... keep Harry Potter in the kiddie section.

Debi Jean...
I appreciate your answer and your opinion.. but..
Harry Potter is a squashed bug under Star Wars shoes... there is no comparison.

I've never been a Harry Potter fan to begin with. I gave it a try a few times, but it isn't interesting to me. I'm okay with people liking it, but the hype and attention its getting is getting really old. I can't wait for the final movie to come out just so it all calms down.

I'm not terribly fond of the movies of Harry Potter, but I like the books. They're quick reading and a good way to unplug without too much thought or depth. And there are times thats exactly what you need.

As far as more star wars or LOTR? Nope....sadly. There will be no more of either. Unless the rumors of the hobbit be true, they may be making The Hobbit into a movie. But beyond that, the story is finished, there was nothing more of that particular epic to tell. Granted, Tolkien wrote several Middle Earth stories and there's back and side stories that could be told (Like Tom Bombadil) or some of the histories. But as far as more LOTR? No.

Star wars - George just won't let anyone else make anymore. Eps 7-9 are already written but George doesn't trust it to anyone and is too tired to do it himself....or at least that is my understanding of the situation. If you want more star wars, pick up one of the many novels, they're all part of accepted canon (or they would not have been published as novels because of the restrictions lucas has placed on it).

I have to say I love the books and the movies, although I know that's not the kind of answer you're looking for. Yes, the first couple of books were without a doubt geared more towards kids, but as the story progresses, the characters and situations take a more mature turn while still being appropriate for younger readers. I don't necessarily feel that the latest book release is on par with the second coming of Christ, which is how it has been treated, but on the whole I love every other aspect of the series.

I like Harry Potter, but I don't like the hype surrounding it.
I don't know how to say this, but the books changed my life in a way that I have yet to understand. I was around 14 when I read the first book, and I am kinda sad now that the series is over... 6 years is a long time considering that I am only 20 years of age.

It's not really "kiddie" if you look past the whole witchcraft and wizardry thing. An actual "kiddie" book would never deal with the question of death and the life after.

Kiddie? Not at all! I never liked Harry Potter until I was bored and decided to read the 5th book, I couldnt put it down! So then I read the 6th and I finished the 7th the day after it came out. The writing is fantastic and the movies are really great for kids and adults. I would consider Harry Potter an epic before Star Wars!

Comparing Harry Potter to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings is a bit like comparing apples to oranges.

While George Lucas did set out to craft a tale for the whole family to enjoy it was not targeted specifically for children.

J.R.R.Tolkein definately was not trying to enchant young children with his dark tale in The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, good story for pre teens and up but not a bedtime story by any means.

While Rowlings tale may not be for the very young it could definately be a bedtime story for ages 6 and up (maybe 5).Harry Potter also has an appeal for many older kids and even adults who still have a little bit of childhood left in them.Which I hope I always do.

Why do people always try to compare other movies to Star Wars?George Lucas' films forever(like it or not)changed the way movies are perceived. No other movie up to that point had ever had as much merchandising or had any movie warranted hours long lines and as many repeat viewers.

Such an impact did Star Wars have on the world that it has been honored by having its own exhibit at the Smithsonian.

Star Wars is unfortunately over now so the media is always going to overhype any movie that might possibly be an epic.Star Wars, after all,is responsible for that. Before Episode IV became such a smash hit in 1977 the media did'nt frenzy over movies the way they do now,it was the first.

That said you should be used to this phenomenon by now and any band, video game, or movie might be the flavor of the month(or week).Get used to it already.

Harry Potter is what it is,a damn good childrens story,at least for those who are not devoutly religious, and if any one does not like it don't let your kids watch but don't try to tell me that my kids can't watch I have a ten and an eighteen year old and they both love it (I like it too).

I love Star Wars saw Episode IV seventeen times at the theatre in 1977 alone.I grew up with it and spent much of my life awaiting it's sequels.

If you let everything that is overhyped by the media make you sick you will become a scrooge and hate life.

Stop watching so much T.V.

Maybe Harry Potter is not that appealing to gangsta rap thugs but I really don't think that was J.K.Rowlings' target audience anyway.Go and see a gangsta thug movie, but remember you to may be a parent one day,and then maybe you won't "wannabe" so hard and try to set a good example for your children, after all, even O.G. Ice Cube makes Disney movies now.So don't knock childrens movies just don't go see them.

We all have to grow up sometime (and pull our pants). No offense intended to the asker of the question.Maybe some of us can be a little more mature with our answers... ...or not.

Don't watch so much T.V.

I am!!! I'm sooo sick of these people on yahoo answers asking if Harry dies or if the last movie is good...Actually, The Hobbit comes out in December 2009! Sam Raimi, director of Spiderman, showed interest in directing it, because Peter Jackson isn't sure about directing it. He's sueing New Line Cinema right now, and he says you can't direct a movie when you're sueing the people who are helping you...anyway, you can click on the link below to read more info. =)
