I found tadpoles in what is left of our pool. They are small and black. I want to know what to feed them and if it is a toad or a frog.

The small black tadpoles are usually the common toad that you see in your garden.

Most temperate-zone amphibian start off as black tadpoles. Unless you can genetically test them or are an adept herpetologist, the only way to identify the species is to wait for them to metamorphose.

I am surprised that they can tolerate the chlorine of your pool, so I assume the there must have been very little left. Unless there is absolutely no plant life in the water it is probably safe to leave them there. If the must be moved, place them in an aquarium filled with filtered water, with some natural, local stones to provide a surface above the waterline, for when their legs start to grow. Supply local aquatic plants, from a rive or lake (observe local laws in regard to this), some stores supply then (don't be surprised if hitchhikers from plants such as leeches turn up). The tadpoles will eat the plants, algae and each other, but I like to chop up a few worms for them too.

Then, when they grow up and turn out to be a federally protected species that must not be disturbed: ditch the lot and "deal" with anyone who knows you had them...

Most commonly it is a frog if it looks like this:

If so,such tadpoles are typically herbivorous, feeding mostly on algae. Some species are carnivorous at the tadpole stage, eating insects, smaller tadpoles and fish.
