Been given information that such and such a place is only 3 blocks from wherever. Ths is only OK if you know the lenght/breadth of block

There are many different sizes of blocks. Due mainly to the original plans for the town which might have become the big city. All shapes and sizes. There is nor uniformity at all. Soo... A block is generaly refered to as the distance between two cross streets.

There is no way to answer you question with any certainty. There is no unit of measuring area called a block. In the US we use acres and sections to signify blocks of land. But the phrase "we are 3 blocks from the hospital" could vary by 1/2 mile or more. Ask for the information in miles which can be converted to kilometers if you'd like

From what I understand just about every city is different. I live in Las Vegas and here a city block is 660 feet. In Chicago it is 8 blocks to a mile. Check with your city codes.

Well an office block over in New York or Chicago is the size of a street width-wise

Usually, 300m. It really isn't that exact--three blocks is just saying go to the corner, cross the street, keep going across two more streets, and you are there. Three blocks would take you about ten minutes to walk, in traffic and having to wait for a light to change.

It refers to a city block; where 2 streets interesect. A very easy direction in a big city.

They're all a little different in each city (sometimes neighborhood, even), but a good rule of thumb is 1 block = 1 tenth of a mile.

country blocks vary in length...but coordinated city blocks are usually 1/8th of a mile long...so 8 city blocks is one mile...

A 'block' is normally about a quarter of a mile. It is a highly subjective term.

im assuming it a continous row of concrete till you come to an edge or street
