im going in 4 to the grand canyon this summer, i, nor anyone one of us has ever been there, so we have no idea what to see and do. first of all i want to decide what would be the most suitable route to getting there, is it cheaper to get there by car and split the gas? how far is it in distance and time? are there cheap flights to reach it, what would be the name of the town closest to it? how far would it be from the airpor to the grand canyon?

i can go on with 10 billion additional questions, so if you can give me any info whatsoever, helps a lot!

thanks

Take the car and split the gas. There are just too many great things to see along the way and you want to be able to get around when you are there. If I might suggest. Take the plunge and go sign up with AAA that's the Auto Club. It will cost about $40 but its really worth it. They will help you plan your trip and give you free maps, route plans, sights and activities tips and help if you have any breakdowns or trouble. You also get big discounts if you present your AAA card at hotels, restaurants etc. AND... you never have to go to the DMV again. It's really worth it and it will solve all your problems and questions. (they also will let you know about airfares etc.) So that is my best suggestion. Good luck with it. You will have a ball and you get to stop in Vegas on the way!

Edit:
Pop on to google earth! Get directions from LA to Grand Canyon National park. It will take you through Vegas and a much more scenic route than the straight shot through the desert. So you get to go through Zion national park which is great as well and there is lots more to see. This is about a 9 to 10 hour drive but you can break it up with Vegas and Zion and have some fun!

PS; Mr. Danger. There is more than one way to get anywhere. You might as well take the fun way!!! No sniping!

I have no idea what Sender is talking about.
What scenic attractions en route ?
The standard routing from LA to the Canyon won't place you within 90 miles of Las Vegas .
I used to live about an hour from the Canyon and have spent well over 100 days exploring it.
I think that the single biggest issue that you will have is finding lodging at a resonable price and at a reasonable distance at this time of year.
Once that can be detemined than everything else will fall into place.
Add Additional details about how long you plan to visit the area , if tent camping is OK and I'll help you figure it all out.
