Yes the state should intervene, most victims given the chance will drop charges
why?
for some it is a security the feel that the man must love them if they beat them, sick but some do feel that way
another is that even with charges most offenders are let out of jail in lieu of pending charges, now when this happens the woman in scared to death of the retaliation that WILL come from all of the legal things and are cowed into dropping the charges so that the beatings they currently get do not get much worse
so they need to defiantly intervene and make it to where there is no bail until the case has been brought to court

The state should be able to intervene... sometimes the victim is too intimidated.. and drops the charge.

It'll also curb the abuse of the 911 system when one of the spouses is just plain PO'd at the other and feels like calling the cops to mediate their petty squabble..

the victim will almost always drop charges if allowed to. The state needs to take is seriously and prosecute the bad guys/gals.

I suspect that anyone who has any direct knowledge of domestic violence issues will agree that victims far too often will not follow through if the choice is left to them alone.

The intervention of the state is an absolute necessity.

I have to go with the State on this one....victims are often intimidated to drop charges, securing their place as victim.

They call them "victims" for a reason. Once it's known, it should be an automatic, including safe haven for the victims and their families.
