I am appauled at the number of people on YA who ask questions about sick pets. I am just astounded at how few people provide their animals vetrinary care. People will say in their questions " Don't tell me to take him to the vet, because I can't afford it".

My opinion: If you cannot afford to provide vetrinary care, you shouldn't have the animal.

And if the animal is sick, get off of the computer and take it to a ******* vet!

Is anyone else truly horrified??

If your child were exhibiting the same symptoms, would you avoid taking them to the doctor??? Seriously, what is with people?

fizzygurrl1980, I agree with you there. Minor things, like skin irritations, are sometimes remedied at home. But, I read a question a week ago complaining that his dog was lathargic and vomiting, and would not eat or drink for 4+ days...I was astounded at the stupidity of this guy.

While I do think it is irresponsible of a pet owner to have a pet without being able to afford an emergency trip to the vet if needed, I also think that there are some pet afflictions that can be remedied without a vet. Much like human health care, it's silly and neurotic to go to the doctor with your animal every time he has a minor problem that could be remedied at home. However, I am appalled when I read questions like, "My dog's not breathing, what should I do?" Other things, like minor skin irritations, mild allergies, etc. are maybe good to ask about on here instead of running to the vet, because some at-home help might be able to be administered.

Yes I am .... my animals are like my kids to me and I do everything I can to make sure they're happy and healthy. I can't stand, and won't put up with, abuse or neglect that I see in person but.................

in here, I think a lot of these questions are just being asked by kids looking for attention or people looking to shock and everybody in here just giving them exactly what they're looking for.... actually acting like they believe them when they say such some really off the wall stuff ........ I know the ones you are talking about, though, where the pet's been sick for awhile or there is something they definitely do need to take the animal to the vet for and instead are asking on here and that's just sad.

YES! Finaly someone who thinks the same way I do! I agree 100%! If my turtles are sick, I usually keep an eye on it for a week or so, and if the problem doesn't clear up, I make a vet appointment, not go on the web and blaber on how I can spend 100's of $$ to buy my turtles and not be able to go to the vet. Its not fair to the animals.

Yes, it bothers me too. I've pondered the question many times over the years. People must have good intentions when they get a pet and then tire of it. Or maybe they are irresponsible people....... period. I know pets are grateful to anyone who will feed, water and love them. Maybe that is enough? Without veterinary care they will have short lives or needlessly suffer from injuries and disease. Sad, yes, but how can we change the situation? I have forced relatives to take pets to the veterinarian but never talked about it to neighbors or acquaintances.

Totally agree with you. Don't get a pet if you can't afford it. If it looks sick get off your damn computer and take it to the vet. How's a perfect stranger going to help you?

sure. that's thoroughly irresponsible to enable cats wander freely. in case you have a backyard it extremely is not any longer that difficult to construct a fence that would incorporate them (i be attentive to from journey). I even have 6 cats, all indoor. it extremely is my duty to grant them with entertainment innovations and that i think of I do a surprisingly stable activity of it. yet I additionally feed a colony of strays and that i'm advantageous that a minimum of a few of them have been as quickly as pets that persons did no longer hardship to maintain. It disgusts me. it is an city section so any animals they kill tend to be mice and pigeons, so no person seems to omit those. in my view I prefer they had kill greater pigeons considering i'm ill of cleansing up pigeon crap yet i could sense very otherwise if we had song birds. that's a risky existence accessible. I could anticipate that anybody who thinks that cats could flow the place they please has by no skill had to %. up the products of one who became into torn aside with the aid of canines (those canines have additionally became semi-feral). it extremely is not any longer a honest existence for a cat and it extremely is not any longer honest to the others who could handle the roaming cats. certainly one of my mom and dad' cats in specific situations sprays certainly one of their doors (from the interior) because of the fact a neighbor's cat wanders over there. so as that's a nuisance for them to freshen up. so far as preserving the cat away... it extremely is probable going to take attempt on your section considering your ignorant neighbor is probable desperate to proceed to be ignorant. you're able to have a hose waiting to spray the cat or set up a sprinkler device and turn it on if the cat's around. If he gets moist adequate cases he might decide for to ward off your section. Doing something that makes particularly some noise may additionally scare the cat away. you're able to build a fence, which does look like particularly some attempt. you're able to get a dogs. or you're able to do as somebody else stated and borrow a humane catch and turn the cat over to a shield. i do no longer recommend giving cats over to shelters yet a minimum of if the owner will pay to get it back it extremely is greater money for the shield.
