For a slider to be effective hit has to look like a fastball to the hitter. You would throw the slider just like your fastball with a sharp snap of your wrist just before you release the ball. It should only be a few mph slower than your fastball but it would break down and in to a right handed hitter if you are a right handed pitcher. It is a good pitch to keep the hitters off balance.

First of all you need to be warned that you shouldnt be throwing a slider unless you feel confident your arm can handle the stress and you take proper care of your arm after every game ie.. be sure to ice it, keep it warm during the game, be sure to properly warm up before the game. If these are neglected you will tear your rotator cuff like I did. Heres how to throw the perfect slider. First, make a C with your middle, index, and thumb fingers. Align your fingers on the ball so your middle finger is on the top lace on the top of the baseball. Second, once you have your fingers aligned you want to apply alot of pressure with you middle finger on the lace. Try not to put pressure with you index finger. The reason you want to apply this pressure with middle finger is so when you release the ball its spins sideways, and there you have it the perfect slider. Play around with the different laceing. This worked perfect for me but I played around witht eh ball for awhile. Give it a shot
