I tried to start my car and it wouldn't. It couldn't quite crank over. A friend of mine checked the spark plugs and they were majorly gunked up. so I bought new plugs and installed them and my car started just fine. It started and ran good for about 4 or 5 days.
but then my battery went dead( It has the headlights that come up and down when you turn the lights on and off and one has been catching.) so I bought a new battery and my car started just fine. It ran good for about another 4 or 5 days.
I tried to start it and it wouldn't.(the battery is still good.) I've been told that it's not getting enough fire to it.
Im not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but about 8 months ago my speed o meter quit working and my over drive on/off button won't let me switch. The light blinks on and off in my dash. I can't tell if my car is in drive or over drive.
ive been told it might be the transmi but that cant have anything to do with it starting can it?

okay! my profile picture has a dude on it . NO. Im actually a girl and I don't know much about cars. so please try not to be so rude. I actually did put my car in the ford house. this was when my battery went dead. Id call when my car was there and they would tell me something diff. everytime. The first time they said they couldn't even get it into the shop to put it on the comp. duh the batt was dead. next call: the mechanic said it could be the trans. because the fluid smelled burned. It didn't and wasn't. then he went on about things connected to the transmission. Then he said something about a converter. I have a guy friend that worked there and he said that they don't even know what their doing. and they don't do well with cars they don't know about especially a probe since they do have many problems.

my car also gets hot when im at a stop sign or in park. I can turn the ac on and the temp goes down. I wrecked my car one night not too bad tho. and I think thats just a fan problem. because the ac kicks the fan on. am i right about that? Yeah I need a new car but its hard when you go to college. which is one main reason i need to figure out whats wrong with my car before the mid of Aug.

Your Pickup coil is going bad or you are losing juice through a cracked or worn out wire. I would do a complete tune-up since I am gathering from your comments that you don't really maintain your car, but just fix it when it breaks. No it has nothing to do with your speedometer breaking or your overdrive. Have you checked your alternator by any chance?
Another issue could be the gap of the plugs is too wide. Jusyt get a tune-up and you should be fine $120-150 for a 4 banger

Lots of things could cause fouled plugs, dead batteries, hard starting, not starting freaky lights etc. However, when you lump all that together, sounds like one of the other posters hit it on the head, you've got a short somewhere. Wire chasing is never fun, but with a schmatic, you can isolate sections and run continuity tests with a fluke much easier that than just blindly chasing wires. My guess is a loose connection making the short only part of the time, since it runs fine for spurts.

Sounds like the coil pack to me.
It is not getting a hot enough spark to burn the fuel. And you are fouling plugs out
The tranny is a different problem, look under the car and check all the connections.
I'll bet they are just loose.
I dirt track a GT probe and I have never has problems with it other than coil - plugs and muffler
Now it is a full on racer -

it sounds like to me you have a bad electrical problem, or maybe a bad sensor. ask and see if anyone you know might have or can get there hands on a OBD 2 machine and have them run it on your car. your alternator might be going out which could possibly have something to do with your car not wanting to fire. To be honest there could be a hundred diff things going on under that hood. your best bet might be to take it to a shop and have a mechanic look at it. the tranny wont have anything to do with causing your car not to fire, but there could be a bad sensor which might cause your overdrive not to kick in when it should. have someone run that obd 2 on it and I bet the farm it will tell you the problem good luck

It's a FORD...
But to be honest maybe your throttle body needs to be cleaned? I had a lot of problems with my old car and the mechanic said it was the throttle body. If you have an engine light on AutoZone or AAmco will scan it for free and tell you what it wrong, so I guess this could prove helpful if you can get it started and running again.

Never buy ford.....go online and do some research you will see that FORD was horrible at this time and honestly hasnt gotten much better.....they use cheap parts which are known to break and my guess is you got a LEMON
My friend had about 2 years and thousands of dollars worht of problems with his 2000 focus...it got so bad he traded it in and bought a toyota
Seriously do some research on your car and you will see that MANY other people have had similar problems and they might have detailed information on what was wrong
American car companies today are jsut Cheap and lazy....but i guess that how we do things

you might have your tranny checked out... I have a 94 probe SE that the OD light was occassionally blinking for about 4 months... then the tranny went out of it. (about 180,000 miles)
If the tranny is sticking in gear even tho you move the lever to park or Neutral... it won't start (I'm assuming you have the automatic here)
If it is a tranny.... you are looking at about $2,000.
I don't know what difference the turbo on the GT will make for any of this.

Have your alternator and starter checked at one of those auto part store for free. (Autozone and Kragen)
I suspect these two are the problem since you have already replace the battery.
If these are not the problem, you should have a mechanic check out every aspect of starting system to find the problem.
Good Luck.

It's a 12-year old Ford! That's 84 years in car-years. It is dying of old age.
Whoever is advising you is an idiot. If it doesn't start, it can't be the transmission! Your electrical system is completely messed up. Starter, alternator, computer, wiring.
