Downshift to a lower gear (pull the lever down into 2 or 1 with an automatic). The engine will help you slow down.

Pull the hand brake (emergency brake- sometimes it's on the floor to the far left). If your brake pedal goes to the floor, it's usually a hydraulic problem and the cable linkage will still operate the rear brakes mechanically. Remember this works the REAR brakes only, so it won't stop very well but it will slow you down.

Downshift until you are almost stopped - then put it in neutral and pull to the side of the road and stop.

Simple really - - - if the brakes go out what are the chances of the e-brake working???? slim - very slim

Downshift the transmission into a lower gear. This is called engine braking. Semi trucks do it all the time since the price to replace brakes is a lot higher. That's when you hear that loud rumbling from their engine.

Then, pull the emergency brake (since it's not connected with the rest of the braking system) and pull your vehicle to the side of the road.

Steering/turn across hill(but avoid rollovers), Emergency brake first alternate, Downshift second, Park or reverse third, tree Last. I rate these to damage to the car. But by far damage to a vehicle is far less of a price to pay then life.

P.S. if there is a car in front of you tailgate them and they will likely stop.

Downshift the tranny into low gear, and slowly apply the emergency(parking) brakes. Since the main brakes are hydrolic(fluid) and the emergency(parking) brakes are mechanical(cable)they will stop you. If you apply the parking brake to fast, it could cause your car to spin around from the back end.

If you keep on going and hoping that you'll reach the end of the slope soon, chances are that you'll crash and die.

Your best bet is to use your emergency brake and gentry stear your car and let it rub into the side of the mountain. Maybe the crash is soft enough that you'll survive.

I'd pull up on the e-brake, but not too fast, because that could flip the car over. If that didn't work, I'd look for the least-damaging thing I could crash into, and just sort of head for it.
