I took a little tiny rose "stick"...not even a bush..that was growing in the middle of my lawn, but kept getting mowed over..and transplanted it to a soil area near my house..it took the transplant, but is only maybe 2 1/2 or 3 inches tall, right now...its growing new leaves tho, and I want to help it survive when the winter comes...should I wrap it, to protect it from the snow and cold? what do I wrap it with?...and how?

Im in zone 5/6 (border)...but I think it sounds like I'll put some sort of wire tent, and wrap that in burlap, and maybe mulch the area well....cover all my bases..lol..thanks for all the help!

That all depends on what zone you are currently in. I would suggest that you speak to someone in a good garden center, not a super center garden center, but a local privately owned garden center. Someone there should have first hand knowledge of how to winterize your rose. I'm in zone seven and mulch is all I would need. I just planted some very young roses own root roses from a rose breeder, but I don't have to worry about my winter killing them. I've even heard of roses dying completely to the ground and reemerging the following spring after a hard winter. It's the roots you have the worry about, not the canes or leaves because they will drop anyhow. Good luck with your little transplant and remember to talk to someone who is familiar with your zone.

It all depends on what zone you are in, I'm in zone 6 so I wrap mine w/ straw & burlap and use bamboo sticks (only.25 each) I pick up at one of my local garden shops for support. Take note not to leave straw on too late it could rot the little thing, for zone 6 late March is when I take mine off, unless we are still have sub zero nights. Also we had a crazy fall last year, so I did not put anything on them til late Nov. Good Luck & Happy Gardening!!!

one thing you could do is wait and see how big it gets before fall roses are usually a hearty plant and will come back. if it's not more than 6" to 8" by fall you'll want to wrap it otherwise let it go and it'll come back. I have made a chicken wire cover and then wraped it with christmas lights and then covered it with burlap or gunney sacks but you have to remember to water it though out the winter too.

use burlap//

being that it is so small.. use some chicken wire to give it stability.. then wrap it in some burlap..

you can also put it in a pot and keep it on the windowsill till spring.. it wont row alot while its inside..

however it wont die either

Make a small cardboard teepee for it, then pile leaves over that, to insulate.
