Since the GOP has such staunch support from the religious right, can the GOP garner enough votes to carry the election without the religious right? So far, he is leading in the polls...

Ken C, what you don't seem to understand (but the candidates of your party sure do) is that although they are a minority, they show up in huge numbers to the polls...in other words, they may be 5% of your base, but 100% of them will vote, versus the 25% of the rest of voters.

Rudy should concentrate on trying to win the GOP nomination than getting ahead of himself. Also, religious voters are more likely to stay away from the polls altogether if he, in fact, does get the GOP nod since he is "too liberal" for them. He'll then have to rely on the fear of terror to scare voters onto his side.

Thats what people don't understand. The religious Right comprise a small part. Kinda like the Socialist Left.
The first Candidate to make a connection with the center, wins in a landslide.
People are more concerned with Iraq, Immigration, and the Economy, than who is sleeping with who, or whether Roe v Wade will be overturned (It won't).
So, yes, Thompson or Rudy have a great shot. Hillary is just way to far left for most of America.

So you are saying the Right will stay home to allow A Socialist to be elected?
They stayed home in 2006. They won't in 2008. Mark my words. Though many may not like Rudy, they will vote against Hillary.
Obama is a wild card though, I will admit.

Rudy backed out of facing Hillary for the NY senate seat. I guess he figures the rest of the country doesn't know him as well as NYers, so they might vote for him. Unfortunately for Rudy (Fortunately for the rest of us), much of the country only knows Italian-Americans from what they saw on the Sopranos. If it comes down to a cross-dressing Italian-American against a woman or an African-American with a Muslim father, it will certainly confuse many who want to ask "Is America ready for a _______ president?". To answer your question, no, I don't think he can. He has far too much baggage, and not enough positives to counteract it.

My dog could win easier than Hillary or Obama I just don't know enough about Rudy to make that judgment.

nope...Southerners won't vote for him. His gay marriage
and abortion stance sink him with party conservatives.
Bet on Thompson. Too bad though, I like Rudy. He's
a good leader.

This election will almost certainly be a democratic one.

Last election the war won the republicans another term

This election it will almost certainly lose it for them.

Expect a massive democratic turnout.

Nope. He's got way too many skeletons and dresses in his closet and he's way way too pro-Bush for the rest of the country to accept.
