I'm with you. In agony, again.
My father grew up a Pirates fan watching those great players in the 60s and the teams of the 70s, and I somehow inherited it. My favourite players as a kid were Pena and Tekulve. And there have been a lot of good players since then - the Bonds - VanSlyke outfields, Jay Bell, Doug Drabek, Kendall, Giles, Freddy Garcia? (LOL!)... but the situation of being unable/unwilling to sign the necessary components to carry the team into contention is infuriating.
Fortunately, I also love BASEBALL, not just seeing "my" team win - so I have some recourse. The Pirates have long been an underdog team (basicly since the 1900s-19teens) - a concept which is important to baseball iconography and which gives us baseball fans an appreciation of those rare moments when those teams who shouldn't, do.
So bah humbug to all those fans of winners and winning who just like to associate themselves with achievement: like they had something to do with it anyways.

Fan in misery since Clemente, Alou, Stargell and Maz.....
I still boo Barry every chance I get; the mark of a true 'Bucco fan; I had a "green weenie" and had Chicken on the HIll with Will.
As for the hater at the bottom; I've watched my team win a couple of world series....could be worse.
