That's what it seems like to me some time. This great grand illusion. Watch the pretty assistant, not the magician's hands. They keep us at each others throats in an attempt to keep us from focusing on the fact that they are all controlled by special interests and have only those interests in mind. The only thing that changes is the names of the groups providing the money.
What do you think?

You are right. It saddens me that most people are just cattle in the field never lifting their heads to see anything.

Money is the master in politics. As we have seen by the recent reactions of a number of politicians, we are simply an irritation to them.

No, usually when I see fools like Nancy Pelosi or the blotted windbag from Massachusettes question our ability to quell some turbulance in Iraq, I hear Patti Smith singing "People Have The Power". Of course we can prevail in bringing democracy to the Middle East. The people want democracy. They risked death to vote; eight million Iraqis proudly voted, multiple times already. The tribal rivalries and the vengeance will be replaced by an understanding that they're all part of one nation now, and must work together to survive.

PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER:

Vengeful aspects became suspect
and bending low as if to hear
and the armies ceased advancing
because the people had their ear
and the shepherds and the soldiers
lay beneath the stars
exchanging visions
and laying arms
to waste / in the dust
in the form of / shining valleys
where the pure air / recognized
and my senses / newly opened
I awakened / to the cry

...The power to dream / to rule
to wrestle the world from fools
it's decreed the people rule
it's decreed the people rule
LISTEN
I believe everything we dream
can come to pass through our union
we can turn the world around
we can turn the earth's revolution
we have the power
People have the power ..."

The best song that describes America is by the Canadian band, RUSH. The song is called "New World Man". It recognizes that we're not perfect, but we're the ones heading in the right direction, and leading the rest of the world with us.

He's a rebel and a runner
He's a signal turning green
He's a restless young romantic
Wants to run the big machine

He's got a problem with his poisons
But you know he'll find a cure
He's cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure

Learning to match the beat of the Old World man
Learning to catch the heat of the Third World man

He's got to make his own mistakes
And learn to mend the mess he makes
He's old enough to know what's right
But young enough not to choose it
He's noble enough to win the world
But weak enough to lose it -

He's a New World man...

He's a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
He's a writer and arranger
And a young boy bearing arms

He's got a problem with his power
With weapons on patrol
He's got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control

Trying to save the day for the Old World man
Trying to pave the way for the Third World man

He's not concerned with yesterday
He knows constant change is here today
He's noble enough to know what's right
But weak enough not to choose it
He's wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it -

He's a New World man...

No. But thank you for enlightening us!

Oh, pray tell - what IS it like to be one of the Illuminati, who sees things that we prols cannot imagine? Who sees Truth with a capital T while we "cattle" (as another answerer put it) see only truth as teh media portrays it?

Oh Buddha - what is the grand vision that you and only you of your ilk can envision, that is so unattainable by the great unwashed masses? Is it hard to be YOU, living among such ignorance and blindness? My soul aches to the core of my being at the pain that you - enlightened as you are - must feel, living in this world with such ordinary and limited mentalities surrounding you.

Actually I'm thinking more of that song that plays during the chase scene on the parody TV show in V for Vendetta.

i seriously always hear "from her lips to god's ears" by against me! playing in my head when i turn on the news.

"the new world order" by defiance, ohio...or "baby, i'm an anarchist" also by against me...also fantastic political songs.

Very true. Lots of men on stilts in this country.

I think it fits poignantly.
