Has anyone seen a all red butterfly or moth. If so where was it seen, ie city/country? It is common to see these butterflies in that area? Can you give a link to a picture or the name of the butterfly?

I saw a red butterfly where I live and this is not common. This is the first time I every saw a butterfly like that before and I can not find it online. Any help would be great.

It was a bright red butterfly. I saw it flying as I going out of my driveway. I live in northeast Ohio and I have been here my whole life. I have never seen a bright red butterfly before. It was not orange at all. It was a solid bright red color.

You did not say where you are located. Some DEEP ORANGE butterflies can look red, depending on where and when they are seen, like this Gulf Fritillary. But as you can see against the red flower, it is not QUITE red: http://lee.ifas.ufl.edu/Butterfly%20Photos/Gulf%20Fritillary%20on%20Zinnia.jpg

Monarchs also are a very strong orange that can appear red in certain lights.

Bright red, eh? HM................................................................

Here's some butterflies with red:

Viceroy
Painted Lady
Monarch
Red Admiral
Julia
American Snout

If I knew where you lived, at least your state, I would be able to do better on it. These are NA species. If you live somewhere else, I can't help you. I can't really think of a butterfly, other than the viceroy, that is a true, solid bright red. Monarchs and viceroys look red when flying, so that could be what you saw. Ask this question again and give some more details.
