My doctor told me it was safe to try right away but you should check with your doc just in case. Some women get pregnant immediately after they stop taking the pill, others it may take longer for their hormones to adjust to being off the pill. Sometimes women who have been on the pill longer may take longer to adjust - not always - we are all different! Good luck to you.

i've been on bc for 11 years. the first day of my period was july 10. i've already started trying. everything i read says that the only reason why it's suggested to wait is to see some regular periods but there is no reason why you can't wait. it all depends on the woman how long it can take to get the bc hormones out of your system... for some it takes no time at all and they get pregnant right away and others it takes a long time. although, i believe that there comes a time when it has nothing to do with bc and it's just a fertility problem. my gyny told me about a month at the most it takes to get out of your system.

i've also read (and confirmed by my gyny) that it's a total myth that bc makes a woman infertile. there is no proven link. they say that if you were regular before you went on bc then you will be regular after... same with being irregular. it has nothing to do with the pill. so that's some good news i think!!

It's safe to start right away. Doc's usually recommend that you finish out your monthly pack so that your period stays regular and you can be more certain of the timing of your pregnancy. But, there is no harm to start trying right away. As soon as you stop taking the pill regularly it stops working...that's why you have to take it everyday if you do want it to work.

wow 5 years, it might take awhile, it might take a month...but having your body trick itself that your pregnant for 5 years, might take awhile for it to regain back to its original state..
I would wait until your period are regular for 3 months, then you'll know your ovulation and can make a baby! Good Luck!

Medical opinion used to be to wait 6 months. But now, it's basically, maybe one cycle. Pills have been refined and don't allow lingering hormones anymore.

You can get pregnant the very month you come off birth control. If you're married, you're good to go. If you're not, I encourage you to wait until then.

Start right away. Practice several times daily, especially in the morning. (I am posting this strictly for the benefit of your partner).
