You are a good man for asking a question as bold as this one. I would agree that it is pretty ignorant. Then you have to look at how ignorant society is becoming. It is getting more ignorant everyday. Eventually it will end up just like the movie, "Idiocracy," which you already know. I think it is all BS.

Rhythmically Applied/Associated/American Poetry, aka RAP or MC-ing had its place and time. I'm not very familiar with most artists in this category, but I will say that there are some who do understand the word "poetry" in RAP. To me, being a great rapper is synonymous with being a great word smith. Improvising, telling a story that teaches a moral or reflects a certain aspect of society with rhyme and wit is no easy task. It is really an art.
In recent years, rap has become popular with many ignorant individuals. In other words, wannabe rappers found a way to reach the pockets of those who are most susceptible to spending, our teens. A "bad" rapper is also a product of our society and more "business man" than artist. It's parallel to all the literature out there that is on the best selling lists. Go around Borders and you won't believe how many idiots wrote books that sell like hotcakes. The truth of the matter is this. Our society is more interested in Anna Nicole's life than global warming or the war in Ethiopia. What that shows is that many chose to pretend that the world ends at the Mexican border. This is just an example of limitation, not to be taken literally.
What I'm getting at is this: the fact that bad rap has such great success clearly reflects the lack of education in our country, both on the side of the artist and that of the audience, while reinforcing the power of the mighty dollar in a capitalist society.
Peace! ;-)))

I dislike rap. Intensely. Personally, I find no artistic value to it whatsoever. However. I will not go so far as to say it sounds ignorant. That's a little too subjective for my liking.
I think I'm a little sensitive when it comes to insulting any type of music. My taste in music was often criticized when I was younger (classical and opera) My grandparents called it "commie" music. (If anyone spoke or sang in another language, then according to my family's older generation, they must be communists.) That wasn't what hurt. After all, they're entitled to their opinions. What hurt was their implication that, in listening to such music, that I was a "communist."
If I were to say that rap music sounds "ignorant," then I would be implying that people who listen to and like rap music are also "ignorant," which simply isn't true. It is true that music is an indicator of what a person is like, but some standards can be incorrect. I know several highly intelligent people in my own life that enjoy rap music.

Rap is about the worst music I have ever herd. I think why anyone Liston's to it is trying to figure out what is being said; like a puzzle. After about 100 times over, and over they finally get it. I don't know whats up with it eather; The hits that was out two years ago are all forgotten. Unlike other artist there music may be around for many, many years. There's really nothing to it eather. Write a hate letter to a X white girlfriend using the worst words you can come up with , and put a boom boom behind it, and there you go. You have your own crap! Why people listen to something with no true meaning is a measure of there intelligence I suppose.

I have a conservative and "classic" ears , I cant stand bang3 on my head and to me rap tunes are not music .
Maybe metal, rock, rap are expressions of being "modern", I dont know.
That remind me to some indiginous "music" ; and the words? Well Iam again an old fashion .
But, when Iam around people and happend they like music which I dont like, I can switch my mind easily anyway as long it is not too loud, it's aching.
Seems lots of people these days like to be "natural" or "down to earth".
Lots of things, foods, chlothings, musics, dances, behaviours, are back to the"ancient" times. ........they call it advanced or modern

How can you possibly throw a blanket statement over an entire genre of music? Like heavy metal, hard rock, or many other types of music, yes, SOME of it is extremely ignorant. On the other hand, there are a lot of rap songs that provide intelligent and insightful messages. With any song of any kind, you must LISTEN to the lyrics and form judgements on an individual basis.

There are different types of rap first off. There are a variety of rap artists that rap about a variety of subjects. So all rap music isn't crap. There are artist rapping about the condition of these States and what we need to do about it. Some are rapping about love, peace, etc. Everybody doesn't rap about killing bi%^$s and h^%s and things of that nature. What sounds like crap to me are the numerous rappers popping up in other cultures that suck.

Well its not for me, but if someone likes it, have at it! To me its just a lot of noise and someone yelling. I don't get it! I guess I'm OLD! LOL
The teens I work with, try and get me to listen to some of it, I just laugh and ask them what the person is saying, they think I am so funny, I'm being serious! I do like Nellie's "Air Force Ones" NOT the edited version, and "Its getting hot in here", I think that's the name of the song also by Nellie, so I guess I am not that old.

Maybe its an age thing but I don't think so. Older black artists such as the Jazz greats or rock and roll legends up thru Motown times, had Talent with a capital T.
Rap is like saying....I'm uneducated, Im rude, I have no repect for anyone especially women, now give me your money Fool.
