This power supply will work with the Dimension 4600:

It has a 20 pin Dell connector. I do not remember which pins are switched on the Dell power supply, but you need one that uses their proprietary connector.

This company is known for building the best power supplies in the industry, that is why this unit is relatively expensive. You may be able to find an original Dell power supply for sale on eBay for less.

Why haven't you contacted Dell support? You can chat with a rep or join the Community Forum to get information from other Dell users.

On the top right is a link to "chat." This way you could get a "back and forth" discussion going and if you are not clear on something, let the rep know you need clarification.

any power supply will work. what is sometimes proprietary is the way it mounts in the case.
if yours has four screws in the back of the case holding the power supply in place, your power supply is generic.
if it has clips inside the case that hold the power supply in place, it's proprietary.
