I have two, the first being "a colourless or pale green mineral which is used as a gemstone" (i think beginning with D but not sure)
The second being thick orange-brown cellulose used in the making of rayon"

Diopside is the only one I can think of beginning with 'D' - dioptase is too brittle to use as a gemstone. Nephrite is also a possibility if the assumed first letter is wrong.
