Nepotism was the English way when the original 13 colonies seperated from the yoke of taxation without representation. Nepotism, Titles of Nobility, and any sort of favoritism or in groups are totally unconstitutional. You cannot have a brother ratifying the election of his brother. How can this be a constitutional republic when it grows more and more like the royal monarchies of primalgenitor rule of europe that the united states was specifically set up to prevent?

Sorry Thomas you are ill informed on this one.

The USA is a Republic, NOT a Democracy. Popular vote doesn't win... and it shouldn't.

There was always a great fear from the southern states that the very populous northern cities (Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia) could out-vote every other state in the union. And that's exactly what triggered the Civil War (slavery wasn't the issue, it was the southern states angry that northern cities were changing the laws and forcing those changes down their throats by popular voting power; slavery just happened to be ONE of the big issues, but there were others too, and this was just the last straw).

Otherwise, if there 100,000 people in the cities, and only 25,000 farmers out in all the other states, guess who will decide every election? That's why the Electoral College came into existence, and why it's so important (or we will virtually guarantee ourselves another Civil War).

Bush and Gore basically TIED their electoral college votes, so close that the remaining electoral votes in Florida became the deciding factor. Traditionally, whoever wins the majority electoral votes for a state wins the entire state (although technically it's not required; but in this case, again, you would have had civil war if that "tradition" wasn't followed).

It was so close that a recount was a good idea. They did, and Bush won. The second recount would have been illegal, and THAT'S what went to the Supreme Court. But they did it anyway, and guess what, Bush won again. Then the media did their own third recount. Again, Bush won.

So there was nothing illegitimate. In fact, it was a brilliant example of why the electoral college is so important, and the entire concept was put the test.

His brother had nothing to do with the electoral college vote other than he happened to be the governor of the state that was so crucial is deciding those final electoral votes.

This isn't to say America isn't ruled by elite families. Kennedy, Rockefeller, Bush, etc. Most of Congress has one connection or another to multi-generational elite families.

But that's not what decided the 2000 election.

Wow. You sound like you know all about American history and yet you really don't. Its called the Constitution which makes the Supreme Court the highest court in the land. Where would you suggest we go the next time we need such a decision made? The UN? I'd rather have a group of citizens with no political affiliation decide. Are you suggesting they all conspired against Gore? There are drugs to treat that kind of insanity.

Oh for chrissakes...MOVE ON

I am a liberal. I think Al Gore would of made a great president. I think that George Bush is horrible and has done irreparable harm to this country. And I dont want to hear about the 2000 Election anymore.

We've got more important matters to discuss. Much more important things to do. You can waste your time and energy pining over something that happened 7 years ago that you cannot do something about, or you can move on and do something useful with your life.

Unless Im in a constitutional law class, I dont want to hear about what happened in 2000 again. I dont want to hear about Florida unless Im booking a cruise to the Bahamas.

You little pin-head, it was allowed because it was legal. What about that don't you understand? I understand that this might be a difficult subject for you but since you brought it up I thought I would ask. Bush won more electoral votes that makes him the president. That is the way our system works, sorry you can't comprehend this simple concept.

You are still not over this. You need some counseling so that you can move on with your life. It is over. You lost.

When did Jeb Bush get nominated to the Supreme Court? I knew nothing of this!
