our constitution says there can be no excessive fines or punishments. it also promises our rights and if you will carefully look at the ninth amendment you will see that the current government does NOT follow the constitution.

70 dollar fines for skateboards and bikes are illegal. how can local governments get away with breaking the constituion? it says NO EXCESSIVE fines. also they are criminalizing our whole new generation of youth. they make permanent records criminalizing people for all sorts of nonsense. the promises of the country that are in the constitution do not allow any of this sort of thing. how is the government getting away, federal, state, and local, with constantly breaking the constitutional promises?

A $70 fine is not even close to excessive. It is considered very small in fact. There are no $70 fines for skateboards and bikes. There are fines for violating ordinances (local laws) that limit where they may be used.

Stop breaking the law and you will find your sport gets cheaper.

That's nothing compared to the Patriot Act, which bypasses about 80% of the Bill of Rights, allowing the government to arrest and hold people without due process of law. Honestly, a $70 fine wouldn't seem excessive to anyone other than a minor, and if there are signs posted saying "no skateboarding", you should obey the law. I'm far more concerned about the more serious things our federal government is doing. I've seen worse things on the local level too, such as lights deliberately set to stay yellow for only two seconds in a 50 mph zone, just to catch more red light runners. That's truly criminal to endanger people's lives just to collect more fines.

My advice to you is to keep your skateboard and your bike out of those marked areas. Those laws are for people's safety, including yours, and you should stop complaining and obey them.

I concur--a $70 fine is very minute compared to other fines imposed for various infractions of the law.

You could always choose not to pay such a fine. Of course, this might lead to an arrest warrant, being jailed until you post bond, have your court hearing, and try to beat the fine; however, most likely you would wind up being put on probation and have to do community service hours. Would that be better than coughing up $70?
