My son. I was told that he would never have a normal life. I was told that he needed to live away at a special school for the severe learning disabled. There was a time in his life that he even contemplated suicide. With a lot of support and a lot more love, he learned to compensate for his learning disability. He turned his 85 IQ to a 115 that surprised the NeuroPsychologist. He got out of special education services while throwing himself into being better and making honor roll in high school.
He learned to be a friend and made friends. He learned to love himself and accept himself just the way he is. He lives for the next day and looks forward to a bright future.
He got into college on a full scholarship and will start next month. My son....who was not supposed to have an independent life is majoring in Criminal Behavior.
In the first grade he wrote a story called
Funny Eric" at an 'author's tea' for the parents. He said, "I dedicate my story to my mother who told me I can be anything I want to be". My son...my hero.

One of my heroes is Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities. I love the fact that he sacrificed himself so willingly for others. That kind of love is the best, and I'd like to think that I would do the same.
My greatest Hero is Jesus Christ, who died for me.
