If you're serious about this than this is the best thing to do:

Just sit calmly while waiting for him or her to approach the car and keep both hands on the wheel. When the officer gets to the car make sure the window is down and say good afternoon officer or better yet nothing at all.

If he asks why you think you were stopped just say that you are not quite sure. Do not admit to anything. Once the officer lets you know what you did wrong just act a little surprised and disappointed in yourself. Even throw in a little innocent reaction like "wow I did not realize I was going that fast...or...I drive this road every day and it gets so second nature that I must have rolled through the stop sign.." Something along those lines that makes you seem human.

Most of the time they will reduce your ticket or just let you get away with a warning. Do not lie because if they even have a hunch that you're lying they can really screw you, even go so far as charging you with making fraudulent statements which carries a charge, jail time and/or a hefty fine.

Regardless of your opinions on law enforcement, most officers have seen it all and the best idea is to be honest and sincere, they will usually respond more in your favor than making up far fetched health issues or other stupid excuses that they can see right through.

I wouldn't make an excuse if I knew I broke the law somehow. If I didn't realize I did I would tell the officer that. Not to get out of the ticket but just to make him aware I was unaware. Traffic stops most of the time are made to protect our safety or the safety of others.....

Honesty and a nice smile. Usually if you are honest with the cop "Im sorry I did not know the tail light was out" they will work with you and tell you what to do with the ticket to make it go away. For example in this situation if you get a ticket in NY for a light being out as long as you have it fixed in 24 hours and take it to the police dept. that issued the ticket to show them its been done they will take care of it. Good luck.

The best excuse is no excuse. Just be polite and admit you were wrong and your honesty may be rewarded. People lie to cops all day long...they get tired of hearing lies. A little honesty is like a breath of fresh air to a cop.

don't use any excuse just be honest. He will probably ask you if there is any justifiable reason why you violated (enter violation here) then if you give him a answer that doesn't justify your gonna get a ticket anyway. but if your upfront and honest about it ..example....Sir I know I was going a little faster then the posted speed limit...I'll slow down and watch my speed... the officer will be more inclined to give you a break.

If I pull you over, my mind is already made up, you are getting a ticket. Most times I have already followed you, I already ran your plate & know what other infractions are on your record. Unless you have a bomb strapped to you, once we both hit the curb, there's no excuse you can tell me, that would justify you you risking yourself and others.

I try to use the line "Im sorry officer my gage doesnt work" but I never get a chance to say it, cause everytime the officer walks up I say instead "You not gonna wanna check the trunk are ya?'

Heh, I used this once, and it totally worked. But it requires a bit of acting skill.

"Sir, I apologize but I have no time. My Imodium A-D wore off and I'm on the verge of shìtting my pants! So unless you want me soaking my drawers with diarrhea, PLEASE let me go! I just need to get to the gas station down the street to use the can!"

If the cop started chasing me ... I'd tell her that my husband ran away with a cop last week, and I was speeding (and refused to stop) because I thought she was tryin' to bring him back!! :)
