Jesse, the people who are saying not to do it probably have never even been to Arkansas. I was raised as an Army kid and lived in most of the southern states and Okinawa and Germany...and I love Arkansas. What part of the state will you be calling home? If you are in the northeast corner, you are at the foothills of the mountains. It is GORGEOUS there. The fall is breathtaking. In the winter, there is snow and skiing to enjoy. The summer offers water sports, hiking, and beautiful weather. The southern part of the state offers Hot Springs which is just fantastic. There are shows and massage / hot bath houses that everyone loves. Little Rock has the zoo and museums and shopping areas and lots of concerts come in. I live in the northeast corner. We have areas to shop, museums, access to Memphis....reduced crime rates when compared to other larger cities. Oh, and if they want to tell you that we don't have a good educational system: my school produces from 1 to 3 National Merit Finalists a year and with a class of 130 - 150, our students earn around $1.5 million a year in scholarships. When you move, contact your local Chamber of Commerce. Don't be afraid to get out an explore and to find out what each area offers. To all the donkeys who have heard the stupid stereo types and are perpetuating them: You are more ignorant than the stereo types you are trying to ridicule.

Arkansas is great, I live in St. Louis now , but am originally from Arkansas. It is a great place to retire in, but it lacks good education and jobs if you haven't went far into your education. Also talk to your doctor about it because your sinuses, asthma, allergies, or whatever medical problems you might have can trigger from the enviornment. But overall its a good call. New scenery is always good for you. There are always misconceptions about Southern States, so I say take the good and the bad and see for yourself.

Hopefully you will have a very high paying job, because I wouldn't want to live in Arkansas. I hear Hot Springs is nice though.

Arkansas is actually a very beautiful state(to my surprise by someone who basically hates the south). If youre a city type of person, the state will never please you. Its very quaint and the colors are very fall like and green. Hope you enjoy it.

Watch out for those fat head misquitoes.
I went out there one year for a family reunion
and those mosquitoes had a party on me.

If you are getting out of California, GOOD FOR YOU!

If you are going there to marry your first cousin then I think there are better states you can move to and still be able to do that.
