I had a manicure done almost an hour ago. The beautician was really nice & chatty. I did not pay there & then because it had already been paid on the phone by somebody else. My father came & picked me up afterwards. I just realised that some people think its really rude not to give a tip. I feel really bad for forgetting to give her a tip. But to me, it's her job so why should I give a tip?

Tip is a sign of gratitude, although she/he is getting paid, most of the time most of their money comes from tips. They are doing you a service so you should tip them. Just like a Hairdresser or a Waitress. In europe some places even tip cashiers.

Hi There.
I am a hair stylist and nail tech. I understand fully how people think "It's their job, why tip" but the truth is, when you pay $15 for a manicure, we usually receive $7 or less after taxes are taken out. We never get the full price of the service. That's why tips are customary for stylists & nail techs. Waitresses are allowed by law to be paid $2.65/hour. :(

My best advice would be this: If you do feel like she did a good job on your nails and you genuinely feel bad about not leaving her a tip, go back up to the salon and give her a tip. Just say something like "my service was prepaid by someone else and I didn't realize that they didn't leave a tip"
If you don't want to tho, don't.

People who work doing these kinds of things make less money and live mostly on their tips. Usually you tip them just like you would tip waiters at restaurants. I always tip 15% when we go out to eat. The tip usually depends on how good their service was. If I really liked how someone cut my hair or did my nails, I usually give them a good tip. Otherwise, if I didn't really like what they did, I would give them less. If I really hated what they did or if they give bad service, even less or nothing at all. Well, maybe spare change, he he. Anyways, just remember to do so next time.

i know what it's like to be a waitress and not get a tip, and it sucks....it makes me wonder what the hell i did wrong.......maybe it's different with beauticians though....idk....but i always think you should tip if you have the money to do so.....it's just courteous.....but if you honestly don't have the money, then you maybe shouldn't really tip.....then again, it is not mandatory . DO NOT worry about it......she probably doesn't even remember.......and if it bothers you that much, go back and tip her........i'm sure that would make her really happy!!!!!!!!!

Um you just totally contradicted yourself. You said you feel bad a couple of times for "forgetting", then you say it's her job so why should you give a tip. Hmm.
No you dont have to tip, but dont be surprised when you go next time and receive crap treatment.

well, yes, you are supposed to tip at salons. it's just an accepted social/cultural thing. manicurists, beauticians, waiters and waitresses, spa therapists, there are several jobs where we tip. you didn't, for whatever reason, you can't do anything about it now, so might as well forget about it--by the way, why do you feel bad about it if you don't think you should anyway?

I think i would feel badly as well....giving a tip is a god faith thing that shows you were thankful for what you recieved...even if someone paid it for you...most people who recieve tips really only get a small income they are paid mostly with tips.
