Where are you people getting your performance numbers for the Cobalt SS S/C? Your asses? That car is a mid 6 second car AT BEST with a 15 second 1/4 mile. Average drivers won't see anywhere near those times posted by pros. The build quality of the car is crap, though I will admit, they look nice. Save yourself some grief sweetheart, and buy a Honda Civic Si, Scion tC TRD S/C or Neon SRT4.

With good tires a 1/4 mile time of 11 sec is possible.
My niece has a SS Cobalt that I have driven numerous times.
I use to be a Semi Pro Drag Racer way back in the 68-70era.
And ran a Dodge with a 426 Hemi pushing 600+ hp. And won on a regular basis. Nieces Coalt SS runs very good I put in a K&N Filter Kit and done some exhaust work [no not the fart pipes you see so much of] down at the local strip last weekend I got in 5 passes and each one got better. Now of course this was of a evening with track temps cooling down
air density was rather low. The slowest was 13.6 and fastest
was 9.55 so it can be done. Do i see a Cobalt SS in my future yeah but it will go thru the Summit Racing Shops and be rebuilt there. good luck [mine will be Black with Neon Green]

I like the car personally and the car is incredibly mod friendly, but there axles are the same as their counterpart 130 hp cobalt :(.

The are rated as 5.5 seconds 0-60, this can be achieved, but honestly they are closer to 6 seconds. 1/4 mile times should be in the high 14's with a good driver, realistically 15.3-15.7 around 94-96 mph.

I have always told folks that this is an excellent first semi-fast car, and you will enjoy it greatly. It will also be leaps and bounds better than your nasty cavalier, lol.

Good luck and stay between the white lines.

Keep your eyes open for a used SS for under 20k would be my advice. The 25k is a little high for the performance level, honestly.

My now ex-husband and I bought an 06 Cobalt SS Supercharged with every option. It came to just over 28k. The payments are 470.00 per month and the insurance is insane.

The car gets 20 mpg at best and is always low on gas. We've gone through two head gaskets, a leaky rear main seal, a clutch, brakes and now tires and the car has less than 25k. And no, he doesn't hot rod it around. Oh, and the cruise control just went out. Not to mention the seven speeding tickets he's gotten...

The car has real tight steering and suspension but he doesn't really like it anymore. It's just not worth it. If you're going to get one, get a used one.

I have an 06 chevy cobalt that i just bought, i would go for that one if the gas isnt so good on the SS. My car is plenty fast, my boyfriend likes to drive it around empty parking lots to see how fast it goes....thats the only time i let him drive my new baby :) I get 34 mpg highway and its a nice smooth ride. I talked the dealer down to around $15,000 and my monthly payments are $271.00 a month.

Chevrolet offers three factory performance upgrades for the Cobalt SS that won't kick it out of factory warranty.
Consult the 2007 GM Performance Parts Catalog part no. 19170580 at your local Chevrolet parts counter.

There are other pure race Ecotec / Cobalt parts available if you have deep pockets.

i am also a chevy fan. i have a 86 corvette and love it. personally i think the cobalt ss is not worth the money. for that price you can get a used corvette or camaro with much more horsepower and torque and beat most cars on the road. drive safe.
