is it by any chance an acer laptop? if so you need to download their software that will let you turn on wireless card with that button up front... it doesnt turn on any other way... the software is called "Launch manager" and is available for free from the Acer web-site. I don't know if you have a different laptop but I imagine possibly otehr companies do the same thing...

Open Device manager and make sure you wireless adapter drivers are installed. I am betting they are not. You can go out to the manufacturers website and download the newest ones and install them. Most major manufacturers now have a place to chat with a tech. This will help if you get stuck or dont know what to download.

First make sure the wireless connection has its driver installed.

Then configure the wireless port for the wireless config you set up on the router (encryption, preshare key, etc). If you are unsure what you did for wireless configuration, go back to the router and get the settings from there.

did you reinstall the xp with your own disc that you had, or the one you laptop came with?if you used the one it came with, there may be a driver disc to install the wireless card driver, sound driver, video driver, etc. if you used your own disc, not the one it came with, you will have to get the drivers from using a different computer to go on the manufacturers website and download the drivers, burn em on a disk and install them to your laptop, this should solve your problem
