Well, if you eat a vegan diet, you will consume no cholesterol because only animal products have cholesterol. You'll also have to watch your sat fat content, and it won't help the hereditary cholesterol your body makes automatically, but it will eliminate a big source of cholesterol.

By alternate, do you mean instead of medication? Raw garlic is probably the best alternative. Their are numerous meds on the market for lowering cholesterol. Obtaining a generic(lovastatin) would be the least expensive.
