Imagine if the funding that went to the Iraq war had been spent on our public school system instead. I want to vote for candidates who make education a top priority. Who are they?

I'd say Hillary Clinton would be #1 in that regard. I read a couple of her books. She is very smart. And I'm saying that even though I'm a Republican.

And I totally agree with you about how funds could have been used to help education rather than fun a multi-billion dollar war.

I'd rather have seen the money used to fund the rebuilding of New Orleans and to help start a plan to send basically any child that wants to go to college to college. In many countries in Europe, the students never even have to pay one cent for college. Here in the US, college tuition is going up at a rate much faster than US incomes. A university close to my home town over about the past 4 years raised it's tuition from about $18,000 a year to over $40,000 a year. That's around $160,000 for a 4 year college tuition. That's the cost of a fairly nice new house around my area. A person needs a 30 year mortgage just for their college loan.

A war that has cost almost a trillion dollars could have sent a large portion of the US high school students to college. I remember a couple years ago when the war wasn't even halfway through to where we are now, they said it had alread cost each US household over like $36,000. That could pay for one college tuition to a half-way descent college for most people. That's like one tuition per household. We're probably up to 2 or 3 tuitions now.

And I'm at least glad that ONE person (John Edwards) is FINALLY after 40 years taking RFK's example and trying to show that we need to focus on fixing problems inside the US before we spend billions trying to fix problems elsewhere like Iraq. I just wish the media was covering it better. Although one thing is for certain, I don't think Edwards has the zeal or true heart felt feelings about it like Robert F. Kennedy did. Kennedy would stop the campaign to talk to random kids on the street in poor areas.

I would say Hilary Clinton is the most into Education. Even as the first lady it was always a priority with her.
