how would you advise me to dress casually. I want to look current without being too assertively "hip". I trust YA to give me good fashion help. Thanks!

My mom's boyfriend is 63, and he always looks to me for fashion adivce, so I think I have good experience with this. I think men in your generation look very nice with a short-sleeved polo or button-down shirt in a solid color, or with a pattern that isn't too loud. For example, a nice royal blue shirt with barely-there white pinstripes would be a nice choice. The shirt should not fit too tight, nor should it hang on you and be baggy either. Look for a shirt that doesn't accentuate your midsection (if you have a bit of a gut) by being too clingy. The best material is cotton or a nice cotton-poly blend, but try to avoid any that look sort of shiny because that looks kind of car-salesman-like.
As for pants, I think you would look nice in a pair of khaki pants for summer. Go for a medium khaki color. Most guys your age make the mistake of wearing those really light-colored khakis, which always sort of remind me of old men. You want a pair of pants that break nicely over your shoes and maybe go about a half-inch below the top of your shoe. They shouldn't be all baggy, but do make sure they're roomy enough for no bulge-age to occur, if you know what I mean. Also, when you iron them (if you do, since it's not really necessary if you pull them out of the dryer and hang them up right away), PLEASE don't iron creases into them. That is really not the thing to do these days!

For shoes- you need a nice dress-casual pair and a nice athletic pair. I would recommend a pair of nice oxfords with a slightly built-up heel for the semi-dressy shoes. They come in black or brown. You should pick up a pair of each. Skechers makes nice ones that are stylish without looking too "young." For the athletic shoes, try to avoid the ones that are all-white or all-black, or have one of those silly toes that point upward. I like the neutral-colored walking shoes from Diesel or Skechers. They are athletic without being dorky.

I think it's nice that you care about your appearance. You are a credit to your generation, most of which I'm afraid think that thigh-length shorts and a "World's Best Grandpa" shirt are the cutting edge in fashion!! Have a great day.

P.S. Always remember- Black shoes with black belt, brown shoes with brown belt.

May I suggest polo style shirt in nice summer colors, khaki pants or shorts (also navy's, black, etc), with some nice brown or black sandals or slip-ons. Some something cool and casual, check out some summer loafers. Banana Republic is a great store for the clothes or a large department store such as Macy's. For the shoes, department stores would be great or look for brands like timberland, steve madden, olukai, sperry, and eastlands. www.zappos.com

Darker denim straight-leg jeans, stiped or plain polos are good choices...plain-front khakis (NO pleats!!!) or slacks, basic stuff like sweater vests or v-neck sweaters, striped or solid button-up shirts. Loafers w/o laces, brown or black oxfords, and basic tennis shoes or sneakers. Stick to the basics & buy quality pieces for wardrobe staples and you'll pretty much always look current.

Stay away from "message tees" and really loud prints on shirts (read: hawaiian shirt day!!), pleated shorts, socks w/sandals, really baggy clothes.

wear what your comfortable in. Unless what your comfortable is multi-colored pleather pants with a sequin coved dress shirt, that is unadvisable. Anyways- wearing something that is you is a million times better looking than something that is current. If you want some direct advise- wear a casual collard shirt with some comphy pants (I prefer dress pants- but that is what I like, if you prefer jeans that works too)
tip:wear nice shirts (sweaters, collard, ext) but don't wear them professionaly (leave them untucked, don't button them all the way up, roll up the arms) It creates a more intellegent but not uptight aura

awwww! I dont know if its just me but I think guys in their 60s and up are adorable.

I think you would be fine just wearing a button up shirt and maybe some knee knockers or even just plain slacks. Or simple shirts, band shirts would be good too because I would just think youre adorable if you wore a Pink Floyd shirt or something.
Jeans would be cute too though.

I think you should check the Banana Republic website and look at some of their pictures. They have very nice quality clothing and I think a man like yourself would look phenomenal wearing them. To me their clothing doesn't really have an age written on it. You can look and tell what can and will be appropriate for you.
